The internet is a threat to big businesses because it allows you to skip over the middleman. You don’t need cable TV anymore because you can watch almost anything online or download it illegally if you’re into that. You don’t need to shop at certain big stores because you can buy something online for cheaper. The big businesses and the government would like to control that and shift the balance of power back to them. They want you paying them for anything and everything because that’s how they survive. That’s why your internet rights are being threatened.
The Telecoms Package being proposed for the EU will essentially only allow you to browse the websites that are included in your particular package. That means you’ll pay more money to access a broad range of sites. That means some sites will simply be banned forever because the telecoms don’t want you to use them. That means the way you use the internet will be changed forever. It sounds like a big deal and it really is. This is a reaction by greedy people to try and control something that has slipped away from them. You simply cannot let this go forward.
If you run an internet business you can count on the money you make falling considerably. Less people will be able to visit your site so you’ll be screwed. Big sites like Amazon will be fine but your little mom and pop internet shop will go belly up because the customers you need will no longer be able to find you. Your internet rights will disappear and the EU needs to hear your voice. You need to call and write and communicate with anyone you can to let them know that you don’t want to see these changes happen.
