Google has changed its algorithm in response to the growth in the number of content farms and the volume of content they’re producing. Content farms churn out pages designed to grab good rankings for search terms in Google and other engines. The pages are almost always of questionable value but they hit the right keywords and because of that they get the search rankings and they get the eyeballs. Google knows these pages aren’t particularly useful so they’ve changed the algorithm that builds their search results to weed out these sites.

The new Google search algorithm is already working well. A number of low quality sites that churn out content for the sole purpose of getting hits have lost significant visibility. They were trying to game the system and Google has nixed that. The interesting thing is that a lot of these sites spent lots of money getting started and on people to produce that content. Several big content farms have already seen a significant drop in traffic and some have even laid off workers. That’s what happens when you don’t do quality work though. It comes back to bite you in the butt.

The most disgusting thing about the effort to bottle up internet rights and give the telecom companies the ability to limit what sites you can visit is how shortsighted it is. These companies are thinking only of their bottom line without a care in the world for anything else and they need to have their thinking shifted. A huge volume of commerce takes place online these days and messing with that would be unbelievably harmful to the economy. It would help the small number of telecom companies that control access to the internet but it would screw everyone else, which isn’t how good business is done.

You need to make your voice heard to protect your internet rights and to protect the economy. If your internet-based business suddenly has half as many customers because the telecoms limited the ability to visit your site then you’re going out of business. Even the big companies will suffer because some telecoms will choose to limit access to their sites. These are the silliest proposed laws ever and they offer no benefit to anyone but the companies that give you internet access. They make money and everyone else gets screwed with their pants on.

If you want to keep your internet rights intact then you need to speak up. That’s the only way one person can effect political decisions and the truth is you really can make a difference if enough people speak up. So, what you need to do is send letters to your local politician and anyone else you can imagine. Write those letters and tell them that they serve you, not the large corporations that donate to them. You’re the one that pays their salary. You’re the citizen that they need to help.

Some politicians simply aren’t educated on what’s happening. Some don’t know what they’re voting on because they don’t pay close attention. They’re busy people and some are just really lazy. You need to educate them. Send those letters and when they receive thousands of others they’ll know that they need to take this seriously. That’s how you protect your internet rights. If you use the web on a daily basis or even a couple times a week you’ll be affected by this. Also, it will hurt the economy in ways you can’t even imagine. It really has the potential to devastate and we can’t let that happen.

The internet is a threat to big businesses because it allows you to skip over the middleman. You don’t need cable TV anymore because you can watch almost anything online or download it illegally if you’re into that. You don’t need to shop at certain big stores because you can buy something online for cheaper. The big businesses and the government would like to control that and shift the balance of power back to them. They want you paying them for anything and everything because that’s how they survive. That’s why your internet rights are being threatened.

The Telecoms Package being proposed for the EU will essentially only allow you to browse the websites that are included in your particular package. That means you’ll pay more money to access a broad range of sites. That means some sites will simply be banned forever because the telecoms don’t want you to use them. That means the way you use the internet will be changed forever. It sounds like a big deal and it really is. This is a reaction by greedy people to try and control something that has slipped away from them. You simply cannot let this go forward.

If you run an internet business you can count on the money you make falling considerably. Less people will be able to visit your site so you’ll be screwed. Big sites like Amazon will be fine but your little mom and pop internet shop will go belly up because the customers you need will no longer be able to find you. Your internet rights will disappear and the EU needs to hear your voice. You need to call and write and communicate with anyone you can to let them know that you don’t want to see these changes happen.

The EU parliament is seriously threatening the rights of internet users. Essentially, they’re going to give control of the internet to the corporations that bankroll them. It’s viciously anti-consumer legislation and it’s about the people in power wanting more money for their coffers while the regular people like you get screwed out of your rights to the internet. The internet is a beautiful thing because it allows for a free flow of ideas and interests. You can share everything you know with someone else and they can share what they know with you and we all get smarter as a result.

Here’s how it’s going to go down. The new Telecoms package that’s up for vote in the EU proposes that broadband providers be able to limit the number of websites you look and to determine whether or not you’re allowed to use specific services. Essentially, they want to be able to funnel you to the services that make them money, not the ones that you want to choose. It’s utterly ridiculous and awful and as mentioned, it’s anti-consumer in an aggressive and vicious kind of way.

They’re counting on you not knowing what’s going on. They’re counting on you simply ignoring it and figuring that the government wouldn’t do that sort of thing to you. You can’t take that for granted though. Money runs the world and if the government is influenced by enough money then they will certainly do anything they can do screw over the little guy because they figure the little guy won’t make enough noise. That’s where you come in. You need to make lots and lots of noise. You need to get loud and get crazy. You need to make sure that your internet rights are protected. Don’t let the government screw you.
